Can you get a virus from downloading songs off of limewire?

I never download songs that have all capital or lowercase letters, have underscores, or songs that do not have the artist's name. We recently got some form of computer virus and I was thinking that maybe it was because I have been downloading a lot of songs to put on my friend's MP3 player. Could anyone help with this?
