McCulloch 738 chainsaw brake not working?

I have a McCulloch 738 chainsaw that is approx 1 year old. It has worked fine up till now but suddenly the brake no longer works and you can use it without having to release the brake as norma. Obviously this make it a bit dodgy to use. Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this and how to recify it ????
